We are excited to introduce the coaches
who will be leading our 2026 Select teams this season. Each of these
coaches brings experience, passion for the game, and a strong commitment to
developing young athletes in our community.
Dan Tavener – U11 Boys
Select Coach
Dan Tavener has been involved in competitive fastball for most of his life. He
grew up playing Select fastball in Newmarket from the age of nine through his
early adult years, developing his skills and passion for the game within a
strong community program.
Dan began coaching at age 18 and quickly discovered a passion for helping young
players develop their abilities and love for the sport. Today, he continues to
play and pitch in men’s fastpitch leagues, and some of the athletes he
previously coached are now teammates on the field. As a coach, Dan emphasizes
competition, skill development, and enjoyment of the game while encouraging
players to challenge themselves and contribute to the continued growth of
fastball in the community.
Jon Cambria – U15 Boys
Select Coach
Jon Cambria brings extensive playing experience and a strong commitment to
athlete development to the U15 Boys Select program. He has been involved in
men’s fastball since the age of 12 and continues to compete in multiple
leagues, including tournament competition. His long-standing involvement in the
sport provides valuable experience that he shares with the players he coaches.
Jon believes that personal development through hard work, respect, and teamwork
helps athletes succeed both on and off the field. His coaching approach focuses
on building confidence, encouraging players to support one another, and
creating an environment where all athletes—regardless of skill level—can
improve and contribute to the team. Jon emphasizes honest communication, accountability,
and positive leadership.
Sasha Larocque – U11 Girls
Select Coach
Sasha Larocque brings a strong passion for youth development and the sport of
softball to the U11 Girls Select program. Originally from British Columbia,
Sasha grew up playing windmill pitching in a community where softball is deeply
rooted in the local culture. She is excited to bring that same enthusiasm and
appreciation for the game to young athletes in Ontario.
Sasha’s coaching philosophy focuses on creating an energetic and positive
environment where players can develop their skills while enjoying the game. She
believes strongly in the importance of sportsmanship, teamwork, and healthy
competition. Her goal is to help players grow as athletes and teammates while
building confidence, staying active, and enjoying the experience of playing
softball together.
About the TBDMSA Select Program
The TBDMSA Select Program is designed to
provide enhanced development and competitive opportunities for athletes seeking
a higher level of softball participation beyond the recreational (house league)
program. The Select Program is tryout-based and includes additional
practices, exhibition games, tournament play, and potential provincial
championship participation through affiliation with recognized governing bodies
such as the Ontario Select Softball Teams Association (OSSTA).
The program is structured to complement—not
replace—the core recreational program. House league participation remains
the foundation of TBDMSA, and recreational games take priority over all
Select activities.
